Plant Experience
Detail
Install a trellis or other support for the Stephanotis to climb. Install the trellis when the plant is small to prevent damage to the roots.
No Blooms? Lack of sunlight is the top reason for lack of flowers. Put your Stephanotis in a sunny window, sunroom or greenhouse to give it the light it needs. Young plants may not bloom much, so be patient - the wait is worth it.
Prune the Stephanotis lightly as needed in late winter. Remove weak growth and cut the main stems down to half their length. If necessary, remove up to 3 inches from stems that branch from the main stem. Avoid hard pruning, as the plant may not rebound.
Don’t try to make up for a lack of humidity by overwatering the Stephanotis; you’ll end up with root rot. Do what you can to boost the humidity around the plant throughout the growing season: mist the plant, keep it beside a water feature, keep the pot in a dish of pebbles and water, or spray the concrete of your patio. Cease these efforts in winter.
