日常为绿色，日照时间增加及温差增大后整株颜色会变深，在一些空气独特的地区甚至整株会变红色。夏季温度过高会休眠，休眠时类似包菜，全部叶片紧抱在一起，生长期对水需求比较大，叶片表面有点粘手，很容易黏住小飞虫，可在浇水时用喷壶将脏物喷掉。繁殖方式主要以扦插为主。
